Printing Instructions

How the heck do I print on these things? Here's a quick guide to get you started. view demo video

  1. Do you have a printer? If you don't, you're out of luck. I guess you could borrow a friend's printer, but they're really not that expensive so go buy one.
  2. We're just kidding. But you do really do need a printer. Make sure it is an inkjet.
  3. OK, time to get serious. After you complete your design using our Skin Maker software you are ready to print.
  4. Use a practice template to ensure accuracy before printing on an actual skin.

    • You can print your design on the practice sheet using the default print quality setting.
    • If you'd like to conserve ink (we know it's really expensive... what's up with that?) close the printer menu and select "Calibrate Printer" from the File menu then press the "Print Calibration Sheet" button.
      • This will print a border indicating the size and location your design will print.
      • If the border is incorrect use the setting in the "Calibrate Printer" dialog box to correct the offset.
  5. Once you are satisfied load your iaPeel skin into your printer and you're good to go.
  6. Make sure your skin is loaded in the printer properly. The arrows on the top edge of the skin should point in the direction that your printer feeds.
  7. Your printer has a sliding paper guide to accomodate various sizes of paper (sometimes they're a little difficult to locate if your printer has a paper tray that feeds from below... keep looking, you'll find it).  Make sure you adjust the guide so that it fits against the edge of the skin.  This will ensure that your skin will feed straight.
  8. On some printers you need to feed sheets face down. Look for the little icon on the paper feed to figure it out (or check the printer instruction manual. Oops, bet you threw that out already).
  9. Select Print under the file menu (or hit Ctrl+P).
  10. In the printer options select the printer you wish to use from the drop down menu labeled "Printer:" (If you only have one printer attached to your computer this printer should already be selected).
  11. Click the "Options" button (different printers will have different options available).
  12. Within the "Options" dialog box, you can set your Paper Type, Print Quality, and Paper size.

    • For Paper Type you must select Photo Paper, Photo Glossy Paper, or a similar selection.
    • For Print Quality select the highest quality available to your printer.
    • If sizing options are available set the print size to 4x6 inches or 5x7 inches
depending on the size of your skins.
    • Still confused?  Take a look at this chart containing print settings for various printer models.
  13. Press the "Print" button, cross your fingers, and hold your breath (No really, you'll do just fine. Nothing at all to worry about).
  14. There you go! Wasn't that easy? Told you not to worry.
  15. If your ink smudges when it comes out of the printer, then you weren't paying attention to Step 12.  The most important step!  That's OK, we're sure you'll get it right next time.
